Who Can Beat The Hulk?

If there is one chink in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is their handling of the Hulk. Not only was his MCU solo project underwhelming, but when audiences got a Hulk they cheered for (in Avengers), Marvel did nothing to build on him. One of the biggest reasons for this inaction is most likely the […]

Avengers: Age of Ultron: The Most FX Used In Any Marvel Movie Ever?

Avengers Age of Ultron

Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will reportedly have the most visual effects of any movie in Marvel’s history to date. That makes it sound like there will be tons, but when you really sit down and think about it, it makes perfect sense due to what the movie will reportedly contain. Marvel needs to up the ante for Age of Ultron in order to improve upon the original Avengers film, which was a smash hit at the box office and earned Marvel Cinematic Universe a rightful place as a true, large-sum money making comic universe brand. Already, reports are surfacing that Age of Ultron may bring forth the trademark Avengers group splitting in half, which would quickly lead into a Civil War type dynamic that will be explored in Captain America 3. Rumors are also swirling that the set up for an eventual Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers crossover will also take place in Captain America 3, and will be further detailed in Avengers 3 when the two groups team up.

The Number Of Visual Shot Effects

Joss Whedon and the Avengers crew plan to outdo the insanely successful original Avengers movie through giving Avengers: Age of Ultron more visual effects. According to Hollywood Reporter, it is currently estimated that Avengers: Age of Ultron will have more than 3,000 VFX (visual effects) shots. This estimation puts Age of Ultron ahead of both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, which had 2,500 VFX shots and 2,750 VFX shots respectively. The high amount of VFX shots aren’t just Marvel showing off their skills, though. The effects shots are going to be absolutely necessary for the abilities and skill sets that the characters within the movie possess.

Considering the subtitle of the movie bears his name, it’s pretty apparent that Ultron is going to be important in the film. Ultron is a robotic character, but he is definitely not the type that could be pulled off by a guy in a suit. Ultron is a super intelligence that is also cloud-connected, and if the promotional art reveals anything, it’s that he’s going to inhabit an army of doubles, thus adding to the number of visual effects needed. Other characters that will likely need a fair amount of visual effects work include the Vision, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. In addition to those new characters, visual effects will still obviously be necessary for the Hulk and Iron Man. Of course, these characters’ skill sets can’t cover every reason for the high amount of VFX… especially considering multiple explosions are an Avengers staple.
